“It's an even playing field and that's all you can ask for. Some people were concerned that in an effort to diversify the force, the department's standards would drop, but the quality of candidates rose.”

-Lloyd Carter, President Vulcan Blazers, Baltimore, MD

Measuring Success and Providing Answers

Has your department made substantial investments in recruitment, but you’re not sure which methods worked? The CWH Recruitment Effectiveness Survey will allow your agency to determine how effective its recruitment efforts were and which venues were most effective. This will allow you to devote more time, funds, and effort into the successful modes of your recruitment.

The CWH Recruitment Effectiveness Survey you can determine if your recruitment efforts were able to:

 Inform qualified candidates of position openings.

 Target and reach diverse groups of candidates, especially women and ethnic minorities.

 Target specific groups of interest (for example, applicants who have already obtained an EMT certification).

 Attract high quality candidates, as evidenced by performance on the written examination and other stages of the selection process.

Many agencies have an array of different recruitment strategies, initiatives, and efforts. Unfortunately, many of these same agencies have no strategy for gauging the effectiveness of these efforts.

By tailoring our measurement instrument to fit your agency’s unique approach to recruitment, CWH can measure the success of your agency’s recruitment efforts, and provide answers.

CWH can help your agency answer the following questions:

1. Relatively, how effective were different recruitment initiatives?
2. Where did candidates first hear the department was hiring?
3. What source of recruitment information was the most influential?
4. Was the initiative effective at recruiting diversity (for example, ethnic minorities and women)?
5. Was the initiative effective at recruiting higher performing test takers?
6. Was the initiative effective at recruiting other potential groups of interest (for example, city residents, paramedics or EMT certified, college educated, etc.)?

How the survey process works:

CWH will assess your recruitment effectiveness by asking candidates directly where they heard your agency was accepting applications, and which source of information was most influential. With your agency’s input, CWH will create a semi-custom questionnaire that reflects the general and specific recruitment initiatives utilized by your agency. CWH will also consult with your agency to determine the most effective methods for you to distribute and collect questionnaires from applicants. After questionnaires are returned to CWH, we will analyze your agency’s recruitment data and prepare an informative report of the results that is easy to read and thouroughly quantifies and analyzes all data.
